Alaska (AK) Dental Plans
With high temperatures hovering just above zero, winter in Alaska is nothing to laugh at. An average of ten inches of snow a month adds to the mix, as families become stranded in their homes, unable to get to a grocery store, much less a dentist. Yet, the state is quick to acknowledge the importance of dental health for both adults and children in the state.

Health and Dental Care in Alaska
The Alaska Oral Health Program has been working since 2003 to bring the topic of dental health to the forefront in Alaska. Medicaid, along with Denali KidCare, offers emergency and routine dental coverage for children under 21, including x-rays, oral surgery and exams. In addition, through the Dental Sealant Program, the Oral Health Program is working to increase the use of dental services for high risk children and adolescents, especially in rural areas.
In addition to these state-funded programs, many discount dental programs have begun to appear that offer families around the state a considerable savings on basic and emergency dental care. Enrollment in these plans range in cost from $99.95-$129.95 for individuals and $149.95-$169.95 for families. Benefits included in these plans include:
- reduced teeth cleaning
- discounts on basic restorative and preventive procedures such as crowns and x-rays
- dental emergency discounts on procedures such as root canals
- access to additional discount plans for vision and chiropractic services
