Health and Dental Care in Oregon

The deserts and dunes attract hikers and off-road adventurers.  There are rocky coastlines with nine magnificent lighthouses, where early in the morning you might see some whales.  There are the Cascade Mountains which offer beautiful views, snow sports, and Oregon’s tallest peak and dormant volcano, Mount Hood.  Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the U.S., with unbelievably crystal blue waters.  The Columbia River runs through the deepest gorge in North America, Hell’s Canyon, which also has great hiking.  Rock-climbers from around the world flock to Smith Rock State Park to test their skills, and to witness the craggy rocks “glowing” at sunrise and sunset. 

Health and dental care are important to people in Oregon.  The State Oral Health Plan was introduced to help improve the oral health for its residents.  It covers everything from pregnancy through older adulthood, as well as community water fluoridation.  Oregon Public Health, which is a member of the Early Childhood Cavities Prevention Coalition (ECCPC), is trying to increase awareness about the need for preventive dental care in a baby’s primary years.  Infants and children require much attention and care when it comes to their teeth, as cavities are a common and chronic disease of childhood.
