First Dental Health Access
In 1995, a California dentist and a board-certified periodontist joined forces to form First Dental Health (FDH). This PPO or preferred provider organization was organized in order to help their patients and to offer uninsured families the same out-of-pocket expenses for dental care as families with dental insurance.
Successful in achieving their first goals, FDH has expanded to offer their dental plan membership as supplemental dental coverage to small businesses as well, both directly and through insurance companies. As of today, over 2,500 groups utilize this plan in order to allow their employees to save money on dental care. Patients choose from a network of dentists who offer discounted dental services to members of the plan in California, Arizona, and Nevada. Currently, over 9,000 dentists participate in this network, providing reasonable prices to families for dental treatment.

First Dental Health Access Dental Plan features:
- A low annual fee covers either an individual or a family (including a spouse, dependent child, or any permanent member of the family unit, i.e., domestic partners or extended family living in the family home).
- Discounts offer a 25 to 60 percent savings off the average area-wide fee for a procedure.
- There are no deductibles, claim forms, or co-pays, because this plan is a savings plan-- not insurance.
- Families may choose their own dentist from the list of providers who have negotiated with the plan to accept the reduced fees.
- Dentists who perform specialty services (such as braces, wisdom tooth extraction, pediatric procedures, root canals, gum care, bridges, or dentures) are also on the provider list. The specialists' services are available at a reduced rate, with savings comparable to those for the general dental procedures. Referrals to these specialists are not required in order to have this type of work done.
- FDH offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Membership services may be used as soon as the annual membership fee is paid.
- If a procedure is not on the list of negotiated reduced-fee procedures, the network dentists will discount their price by a 15 percent discount.
