Patriot Dental Plan

The Patriot Plan, a member of the American Health Network, began in 1978 as the first dental savings plan in Arizona and one of the first such plans in the US. The Patriot Plan offers memberships for individuals, families, and groups, and is designed to either stand alone or to supplement dental insurance by covering gaps in coverage. More than 30,000 individual and families utilize this plan, which has a focus on early prevention through correct oral hygiene.

The Patriot Plan is organized around the concept that if a dentist has lower overhead, he can lower his fees. If he has a consistent source of patients that all pay cash for the services he provides, he will have greatly reduced administrative and marketing costs and will be able to charge substantially less. Fee discounts of up to 60 percent are available through the plan. Specialty dentists generally lower their fees by a flat 20 percent.

Patriot Plan Features:

• Members choose a dentist at the time of enrollment
• In order to pay for required gloves, masks, and OSHA-required sterilization techniques, an extra $10 fee will be charged at each visit.
• Members may enjoy one exam and the first four X-rays each year for free.
• Referrals are not required to see specialists.
• The annual membership charges are non-refundable.
• Any service may be performed without a waiting period.
• Any number of services may be performed in one year.
• The reduced rates focus mainly on lowering costs for basic clinical dentistry, including such services as cleanings, fillings, X-rays, and crowns.
• General dentistry treatments have no pre-existing exclusions.
• If the member does not need dental work in that calendar year, unused benefits may be reassigned to another person.
• Enrollments are not restricted.
• A member's dental benefits will continue under the plan even if he or she changes jobs.
• The family plan includes the spouse and all dependent children.
• Braces are covered, but only if this treatment is begun by a network dentist.
